About Robert (Bob) Sprague: Mr. Sprague was nominated Interim President of West Los Angeles College by Chancellor Francisco Rodriguez and approved by the Los Angeles Community College District’s Board of Trustees. Chancellor Rodriguez explained his decision, “Bob’s 30-plus year affiliation with and knowledge of the Los Angeles Community College District as an English professor, dean, and vice president position him exceptionally well for this assignment, and I am confident that he will provide a steady hand during this leadership transition period.”has held executive level assignments for Los Angeles Metropolitan College and in the past has served as interim president at West. He plans to build on West’s effective operations, public relations, and morale to lead the college through eight critical developments:
For 25 years, President Sprague has held assignments at West as Vice President of Academic Affairs twice, Vice President of Development, Dean of Transfer and General Education, and full-time Professor of English—where he also has been teaching part-time since 1983. He served as Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of Career Education at Valley College, and he developed training programs at the Los Angeles Community College District for five of its colleges. He served at an executive level at Los Angeles Metropolitan College, growing enrollments and expanding programs and offerings over 200%. He has taught at Metropolitan, Pierce, City and West; also Hawaii Community Colleges and University of Maryland.

Sprague had served on West’s executive team as Vice President of Academic Affairs since 2007 and had been associated with the college as a dean and instructor since the 1980s. “Bob’s 30-plus year affiliation with and knowledge of the Los Angeles Community College District as an English professor, dean, and vice president position him exceptionally well for this assignment, and I am confident that he will provide a steady hand during this leadership transition period,” said Dr. Francisco Rodriguez, Chancellor of the Los Angeles Community College District.
- Accreditation status determined by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges;
- Increasing opportunities for faculty and staff;
- Growing enrollment by 6% each year over 5 years;
- Increasing the budget balance from $35K to $2.3M 2016;
- Greatly expanding faculty and staff employment opportunities;
- Building plans for: (1) corporate center at 10100 Jefferson, (2) black box theater, (3) prop house and sound stage, (4) repaired dance floors, (5) outdoor amphitheater, (6) student residence hall, (7) 4-story Technology Learning Center; creating a new vision beyond 2018;
- Enhancing partnerships with Culver City, West’s service areas, schools, universities, corporations, labor, community-based organizations, foundations;
- Developing and expanding the West Los Angeles College Foundation.
